Description

Charlie Potts, in his first life, was a farmhand in Cornwall in the 18th century. He was a cheerful lad and happy enough earning his bread with his hands. He did everything, milking, shearing, sowing the crops in the spring and reaping the harvest every autumn since he was eight. Charlie had never learned to read or write and he was all the happier for it. He was popular among the lasses, and perhaps a few of the dandy masters in the town, due to his cheeky, carefree grin and tendency to work with his shirt off. He had his mother and father, both living, Praise be and he had two older sisters, though both had been married off by the time he was 15. One happily and the other begrudgingly. Charlie was too busy for such things, his Da needed him too much, he was getting old and being the only lad in the family, he had to stay.
He had been born in the Kings year of 1732 and was in his 22nd year when he was bitten by an Elder, only known to him as Louis.
Charlie had gotten up very early one spring morning, the ewes were going to bear the spring lambs anytime now and it was best to be prepared. He kept his eye on them while he speared the hay with a pitchfork to feed the rest of the herd with. It was still dark from winter and being in the barn, he didn't dare to bring in a candle to light his work. He knew the place like the back of his hand anyways, even in the dark. He didn't see the disheveled vampire crawl out from behind the bales.
Louis had been travelling for 5 days and had been running from the dawn when he found the Potts farm. He stayed the day in the dry, dark, sweet smelling hay loft. Not an accomodation fitting a vampire perhaps but when needs must, he thought dryly. He lay there through the night and day and though he was starving, he found could not bring himself to feed from the livestock. Unrefined, dirty blood. But he was perked up when he saw the lad working in the dark below him. The healthy young lad who, by picking up and moving the bales, was releasing adrenaline into his system.
Delicious.
He was of lower stock certainly, a farmer. Louis preferred his claret of better quality, usually preying on those in more aristocratic circles. They had better manners about the whole thing. But this boy was young, fairly attractive and he was so <hungry.
It took him less than 10 seconds to get down from the loft, creep over to the farm boy and quietly and sweetly, sink his teeth into his neck.

Charlie has been a vampire ever since. Louis had not intended to turn him initially, just to assauge his thirst. But after the half concious ramblings of the boy, he decided to keep him. He was amusing, different from the others he had sired. Uncouth, uneducated but with potential. A project.
Charlie was generally quite pissed off at first, the fact that he could never go outside in the sunlight ever again, that he could never see his ma and Da again and that, even after a week, his neck still "bluddy 'urt." He caused a good amount of damage to Louis' beloved smoking jacket and waistcoat as well to Louis himself. In fact, Louis had to burn these, they were unwearable after being thickly smeared with a mixture of cow, pig and sheep manure. It was a mournful ceremony.
charlie found it hard to adapt to the night. He was used to getting up early for farmwork but he had been a creature of the day, relishing the heat of the sun on his back and now there was naught but night and its cold carress. But he got by.
He lived for the next century with his Sire, lived the dandy life, something he found he could not enjoy. He met his brethren, who were all like louis: tall, pale and darkhaired. Charlie stuck out like a sore thumb, having coarse yellow hair with tanned skin despite his death, as well as being 5foot 5. He was more hobbit than vampire. But he stuck through it. Realising that he was immortal now, he wanted to learn to read and write, that he would <need to learn, something Louis promised to teach him if he <stayed.
Louis also taught him how to waltz, to talk politics and in which direction to use the arrangements of knives and forks on a dinner table. Charlie was a little slow in learning but Louis was patient. After all, they had eternity. Louis wanted to make a gentleman.
And by the 1850's, Charlie couldn't take it any longer. He left Louis and just drifted around England and Scotland. He never went to Europe or even the Americas, knowing of Louis fascination with Travel. Charlie was content in his homeland. He never went back to cornwall though. His family would all be dead anyway, the only remnants of the Potts line being great grand neices and nephews he had never seen and would never know. He didn't want to see strange children with his fathers eyes or his sisters curl of lip.
He lived, in a way, and slept and ate. Charlie had always been good at making friends and he made good enough ones that he could always find a meal when he needed one. He was never one for skimping on any food, was charlie, even as a vampire.
It was in the late 1970's that he finally decided to go through higher education. Of course he could never go to a human college, even night classes would be impossible. He would have to go through Indergrunde education, they took in vampires there, made allowances for them. He decided to take a course in above ground literature, something he had always enjoyed as well as some obligatory courses in Lim background and basic Lim training. While he found that he had no talent in the Lim related subject, he excelled in the literary courses. It was actually in one of these courses, it was one pertaining the work of British Writers in the 20th century, that he met Jack Smith.

My friend Jess has a thing about vampires, and one day we were talking about them and I thought, why are nearly all vampires the same? They are all tall and pale and dark haired. Why cant there be someone to the exception. Which is why I made Charlie c:
Btw, he has a cornish accent c:

Charlie is mine, Louis is Jess's
