I think she would be proud. This is great, imaginative yet true to legends picture of her.

oh god that's BEAUTIFUL!
I remember when I was a kid I was so terrified of her (i'm Russian)
but now I love witches! especially because when I draw them they always turn up creepy, with branches sticking from their hats and a bunch of small details on them.

Been a'touring your gallery, and I love your designs for fairy tales! They really bring out the aspects I love about the characters, and there are great twists to 'em.
That being said, I'm so happy you also know Baba Yaga! It was one of my favorite fairy tales as a kid. =D
Recently I started a sculpture of the Baba Yaga house, and was surprised to find no one had heard of her! >.< I like how you drew her old and thin, yet she still feels very strong and wise. Really love it!

I like the way you depict her as almost shamanic rather than a conventional witch.

Browsing through your gallery, and I like the style you use. Reminds me of illustrations in books I half remember from when I was little.

Most of the illustrations in the books I read now are just technical drawings, anyhow. *heheh*
My friend compared you to Tim Burton's illustrations from many years back (pre-Nightmare). I think it's more along the lines of a humanoid version of Beatrix Potter. Good memories. ^_^ (that's what I'd wanted to say earlier, but couldn't remember her name. haha)

Tim burton eh? aint too bad, thats what my mum says about my drawings. "tim burtonish" but thats only cause she knows i like his stuff and doenst know any other artists XD
beatrix was amazing though i get what you mean. her watercolour colouring is quite similar to mine alhtough ide love to be able to use them in the same way!

Beatrix is the reason I have a rabbit. *heheh*
The wood hands, though? That reminds me much of Finnish mythology. Reminiscent of a Troll, but done much more delicately.

aww, i love the name beatrix. if could change my name it would probably be that XD
i drew them a while ago before, i had been readiing really old fairytales and earlier i had seen an odd mannequin in a shop, it had movable fingers and it got me to thinking.
i like using wooden hands for nymphs, though they look human from seeing them constantly, they still retain some of nature.

Beatrix. Should be my next pet's name (since I hate kids).
I can see the use of them in Wood Nymphs, yes. Or, in Greek/Roman mythology. In my morbid mind's eye, it could rather well depict a gruesome transition, or a peaceful transmorphose.

oh morbidity! a kindred spirit. i always saw, as a story, someone who abused the forrest slowly turning into the tree. a slow and painful punishment and imagine, in the right age, the witchcraft that they would be accused of. nasty death

I'm not sure if I'm surprised. It's not like it's a very popular character around the world, you know? :B
